How are mileage blockers detected?
Every BMW stores a running countdown of the miles remaining until the next oil change, calculated by the engine's control unit (DME) based on how hard the engine has been working. Critically, this has no connection to the odometer. On a genuine car, both values track real-world miles and broadly align over time.
When a mileage blocker is fitted, it suppresses the odometer signal - but it cannot touch the DME's oil life calculation, which continues counting down honestly. This creates a measurable discrepancy between the two values. No mileage blocker, however sophisticated, can prevent the DME from doing its job.
