Mileage Blocker Confirmed May 2025 BMW M3 CS

Mileage Blocker Confirmed by BMW on Rare M3 CS

A BMW M3 CS - one of just 14 UK Alpine White 3 examples. BMW confirmed and removed a mileage blocker before placing the car into a BCA auction. It was subsequently advertised twice at independent garages without disclosure of its history.

Of the 1,273 M3 CS models produced worldwide, only 99 were delivered to the UK. Of those, just 14 were finished in Alpine White 3 - making EO68SZC an exceptionally rare car, and accurate mileage all the more critical to its value.

The Background

This case came to MDataWorks' attention through the BMW M community. Unlike the other cases documented here, the mileage blocker was not identified by MDataWorks first - it was identified by BMW themselves, who removed the device and placed the car into a BCA dealer auction in May 2025 with the following notes on the listing:

  • Mileage: 62,071 - incorrect mileage
  • Modified Vehicle
  • Mileage Incorrect - Mileage Blocker

What the MDataWorks Report Found

On running the MDataWorks mileage blocker analysis against EO68SZC, the report independently confirmed exactly what BMW had found - and went further, showing exactly when the blocker had first been present and that it had been active right up until the car was placed into the BCA auction.

The report indicates the car's true mileage is likely in the region of 80,000 miles - approximately 18,000 miles more than the odometer was showing.

What Happened Next

Following the BCA auction, the car was acquired and advertised for sale at £41,995. The listing made no mention of the mileage blocker or the incorrect odometer reading. After just a week on the market, the asking price was reduced to £38,995 - quite possibly due to significant discussion about the car and its chequered past in online forums.

EO68SZC gained its fifth registered keeper on 15 October 2025. Whether they were aware of the car's documented mileage blocker history is not known.

Just ten weeks later however, the car appeared at a second garage at an asking price of £44,950 - again with no disclosure of its history. The odometer reading was 63,669 miles.

Key Lessons for Buyers

  • A car passing through a dealer auction is no guarantee of a clean history - where possible obtain a full vehicle report before purchase
  • The absence of disclosure in a subsequent advert does not mean the seller is unaware - it may mean the opposite
  • On a rare model like the M3 CS, provenance and accurate mileage are critical to value - a true mileage of 80,000 miles versus a displayed 62,000 miles is a material difference
  • The MDataWorks Vehicle Report independently confirmed BMW's own finding - demonstrating that the DME oil life analysis is a reliable and repeatable method of detecting mileage blocker activity

An MDataWorks Vehicle Report Would Have Helped Here

Any buyer who ran a report on EO68SZC before purchase would have seen the mileage blocker analysis flagging the discrepancy - the same discrepancy BMW themselves identified. The advert history would also have shown the car's recent sales pattern, prompting further investigation before any money changed hands.

  • Mileage blocker detection independently validates BMW's own findings
  • Advert history reveals the full sales pattern and mileage at each listing
  • Mileage blockers cannot hide the DME oil life discrepancy
